Better Beginnings Program
1. Support the delivery of Better Beginnings programming and activities that promote healthy pregnancies, positive parenting and optimal early child and family development.
2. Develop supportive relationships with parents and caregivers and contribute to a safe, welcoming, non-judgmental and nurturing program environment.
3. Assist with program preparation, nutrition supports, supplies, food distribution, vouchers and related participant supports as directed.
4. Support and work alongside Better Beginnings volunteers, including support for food preparation and childminding activities as required.
5. Liaise with community service providers as directed to support referrals and a continuum of support for pregnant parents and families raising young children.
6. Address participant concerns, incidents and emergencies in consultation with the Early Years Coordinator or designate.
Family Resource Program
7. Assist with the delivery of Family Resource Program activities in the five core areas of service: family support, parent education and learning, early literacy and learning, play-based learning, and information and referrals.
8. Support play-based learning experiences and parent-child interaction opportunities that encourage healthy attachment, early childhood development and family engagement.
9. Help maintain a calm, safe, inclusive and nurturing environment for children and families, including indoor/outdoor and active/quiet activities.
10. Welcome and orient new participants to the program and promote engagement with first-time and regular participants.
11. Communicate with families about children’s growth and development and support referrals or additional services when appropriate.
12. Assist with program setup, cleanup, activity preparation, safety checks, equipment use and maintaining a healthy and safe environment.
General Responsibilities
13. Maintain related records, statistics and reports as required.
14. Work closely with volunteers, practicum students and other Early Years staff as required.
15. Complete all mandatory learning requirements.
16. Pick up and deliver groceries and donations to programs.
17. Manage time, meet deadlines and prioritize tasks effectively.
18. Perform other relevant duties as required.

General:
• Wage rate as per BCGEU Collective Agreement, ECE – grid 10 – $27.53 (Under Review) per hour.

1. Ensure that the childcare programs meet all the legal requirements.
Arrange for sufficient staffing of the programs to meet ratio requirement in the
childcare regulation and related policies of the licensee.
Recognize, document, and take appropriate action in case of suspected abuse, illness or accident.
Inform the board of all visits, inspections and reports from licensing and other authorities.
Review the insurance coverage on an annual basis, make recommendations to the

2. Ensure that the operational polices established by the board of directors are implemented

Establish and maintain an up- to date waiting list system and enroll children in
accordance with the enrollment policies.
Meet with all new enrolling parent/ legal guardians enrolling children in the centre and
review the family- centre handbook/ polices and procedures, introduce staff and provide

Develop a health care plan with the health professionals for all children who have
exceptional health care needs.
Develop an individuals care plan for all the children with extra support needs.
Establish and maintain children’s files including registration forms, medical records,
permission to administer medication and consent forms in accordance with licensing
requirement and centre policy.
Establish and maintain a system to record all arrivals and pick up of children.
Establish and ensure appropriate use of a communication book and maintain
appropriate communication with the enrolling parent/legal guardians and staff.
Arrange family/staff meeting and interviews as requested by either the enrolling
parent/legal guardian or staff.
Review family- centre handbook/ policy and procedure, updating policies and
procedures as changes are made.
Ensure that polices and procedures related to termination of services (as a last resort
measure) are implemented.

3. Ensure that the curriculum meets and exceeds licensing guidelines
Establish approaches that respect and reflect the diverse needs of children, families and communities.
Assist the staff in determining the support and accessing the training that may be
required to ensure provision of quality care to each children.
Act as a resource in planning and implementing an inclusive child c are program and
ensure that the staff team is utilizing available resources to support each child’s
physical, social, emotional, creative and cognitive development.
Review daily and weekly program plan s with the child care staff.
Develop and implement a program review in cooperation with the staff and families
and prepare a summary report to the board highlighting areas for improvement and/or change.

4. Ensure ongoing coaching and supervision of child care staff and other employees and
volunteers in the child care program.
Maintain current job description to reflect actual job duties, responsibilities and requirements.
Maintain complete personnel files. Appoint a designate to be in charge in case of absence.
Interview, hire and orient new employees in accordance with the personnel policies.
Review performance of new staff before the end of the probationary periods and
recommend staff for permanent status, extended probation or dismissal.
Plan and facilitate weekly and/or monthly staff meetings
Complete an annual performance review with each employee.

5. Ensure that the financial administration tasks are managed.
Ensure the administrative tasks are completed in an accurate and timely ways in
accordance with the financial policies and procedures for: fee collection, bank deposits,
receipts, payroll information, payment of services/ supplies, petty cash, child care
subsidy payments and grants.
Ensure that all invoices for payments and authorized and all documentation is provided
to the signing officers; cheques are signed by one of the signing officers only after
review of documentation; and all expenses for services, supplies and equipment are
within the approved budget.
Maintain accurate data collection and prepare report for signing officers as required to
meet all funding requirement.

6. Promote the organization and its child care services in the community.
Attend local child care meetings to participate in child care planning and areas administration meetings.
Inform the board and families of local, provincial, and federal government policies and
initiatives that impact on children and families, child care programs and services delivery in communication.
