JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Overview

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Preschool Teacher to join our 4-year-old class. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in early childhood education and a genuine love for working with young children. This role involves creating a nurturing and stimulating classroom environment that fosters the social, emotional, and cognitive development of preschool-aged children. The Preschool Teacher will be responsible for implementing engaging lesson plans that promote learning through play and exploration. Previous or current experience leading/teaching a preschool class is an asset.

Responsibilities

Develop and implement play-based programs that support and promote the physical, cognitive, emotional and social development of children.
Lead activities by preparing seasonal or theme-based crafts, telling or reading stories, teaching songs, introducing basic science and cooking concepts.
Encourage children to express creativity through art, dramatic play, exploration and physical activity.
Guide and assist children in the development of proper eating and toilet habits.
Observe children for signs of potential learning or behavioural problems and prepare reports for parents, guardians.
Knowledge of licensing regulations.
Establish guidelines for appropriate, kind behaviour.
Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with current 3’s class teacher, parents and community service providers who may be working with children.
Plan and maintain an environment that protects the health, security and well-being of children and parents.
Assess child’s development and suggest a learning plan tailored to their needs if necessary.
Observe the overall situation with children and communicate information to parents or caregivers.
Prepare monthly teacher reports for Executive Committee meeting and Parent Education meeting.

Qualifications

Early Childhood Education (ECE) Certificate
First Aid Certificate
Experience in Preschool setting is an asset
Additional childhood education diplomas is an asset
Criminal record check for working with vulnerable persons
Knowledge of special education practices & working with children with behavioral challenges is an asset
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Strong organizational and time management skills to handle classroom responsibilities

Work Setting

Heritage building in the Promontory community. Full classroom, kitchen, gross motor play area, play yard with playground, large garden, and ample parking.

Job Types: Part-time, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 10 months
Pay: $21.58-$28.08 per hour
Expected hours: 12 – 14 per week
